Use It Up! Double Wedding Ring and Variations
Level 3, Sandy
Let Sandy show you how to make this challenging classic very manageable. If you’ve been wondering what to give for a son or daughter’s wedding gift, or a great anniversary project, this one steals the show. Yes, it takes a little time, but it’s still all production line sewing. You can even see how to cut your work down to about 25% of the old fashioned, traditional DWR. $Free with purchase of our DWR templates.
   • Mondays, 10 AM-12 Noon: Jan 4, 18, then we will switch to the second and fourth Mondays for the rest of the year: Feb 8, 22, Mar 8, 22, Apr 12, 26 etc.

T-Shirt Quilt

Use It Up! Double 4-Patch Clusters and Variations
Level 2, Sandy
This simple process produces many different ways to put your blocks together. It’s a “brain-dead” sewing process because it is so repetitive and simple. Mary Ellen calls this Kindergarten work. But the results are clearly the Art School Graduate look. $10 or FREE with a “UIU!” Pass
   • Wednesday, 1-4 PM: January 13
   • Thursday, 10 AM-1 PM: March 25

Use It Up! Fields and Furrows
Level 2, Sandy
This is a slightly controlled scrap quilt and it’s much easier than it looks. Collect your favorite blended lights (ours are almost white) and your favorite mediums (our are various teals) and put in an “odd man out” and some black to turn up the heat a bit. It’s fast and beautiful! $10 or FREE with a “UIU!” Pass
   • Thursday, 1-4 PM: January 14
   • Thursday, 6-9 PM: March 25

Happy St. Patrick’s Day

Use It Up! Lecture I--The Method
Now’s the time to experience Sandy’s lecture on Scrap Control! We don’t just cut squares and put them aside, only to find that we have cut the wrong size or have to recut them again. “The Method” covers all the scrap issues a quiltmaker faces and offers solutions to organizing your stash, your sewing room and your quilt making plans. It’s a MUST for all of you who are paralyzed into inactivity when it comes to making scrap quilts or want quilts that are more than just squares. This class will get you in motion again. It’s the perfect kick-off to begin the Use It Up! classes.

Design as You Sew: Scrap Quilts
Level 2, Eunice
Sometimes when you finish a quilt top there are some nice pieces left. It’s a shame to just let them pile up. One of Eunice’s favorite things to do is cut them into usable squares and store them until she has a nice stack of one or two colors all the same size. Or you can use Charm Packets if you’d rather. Bring those squares or just some scraps that have a common theme to them and some coordinating fabrics from your stash and we can build a quilt from them. $25
   • Friday, 1-4 PM: February 19

Twosie-Foursie
Level 2, Sandy
This technique is so exciting that you’ll want to use it for all your quilts. Did you ever try to sew rows of blocks together only to find that the intersections suddenly stop matching? It’s probably because all your blocks aren’t perfectly cut or your seams aren’t perfectly placed, but you do have perfectly lovely seam allowances. Well, sweetheart, there are no seam allowance police, just nitpickers who notice that your intersections don’t match. This all goes away with Twosie-Foursie. It will change the way you look at construction! $25
   • Monday, 6-9 PM: Feb 22
   • Tuesday, 10 AM-1 PM: Mar 23
   • Thursday, 6-9 PM: April 1

Jane’s Baskets
Level 2, Eunice
Jane, who retired a couple of years ago from our shop, gave Eunice a stack of scraps from a project she had just finished and they seemed to want to be made into little basket blocks. Eunice says she got a little carried away and ended up with 100 of them. This quilt is the result. Bring your stack of small fabric pieces and join the fun. $25
   • Wednesday, 1-4 PM: February 24

Use It Up! Rag Balls Quilt
Level 2, Sandy
Learn how to use up all those wonky shaped strips and strings left over from straightening up an edge. Sometimes, we’ll cut them even wonkier, just to have an even curvier edge. Pick a nice background and learn to do the buttonhole appliqué stitch on your machine as we stitch the edges down. $10 or Free with a Use It Up! Pass.
   • Thursday, 1-4 PM: Feb 25

Use It Up! Solera Bow Ties
Level 2, Sandy
Making these sweet little shapes is a lot of fun. You can make big ones and mix them in with little ones, once you know the math. Sandy keeps a box of these going all the time so there are always ways to use up even the tiniest of fabric scraps. Like Solera wine, her bow tie quilts each use a little bit of the very first “batch” she made years ago. As a bonus, we’ll even throw in the dimensional Bow Tie for those of you who have forgotten how simple it is. $10 or FREE with Use It Up! Pass
   • Friday, 1-4 PM: February 26

Flip Flop Quilt
Level 2, Eunice
This block is made using a cool new template. It is curved piecing but it’s not a sharp curve so it’s a good way to learn to piece curves. Eunice’s version has appliqué on it but the template designer makes other versions without appliqué and you are welcome to do those in the class if you prefer. But to copy Eunice’s design exactly, you need to be able to hand appliqué . It looks great in pretty batiks. $25
   • Saturday, 1-4 PM: February 27

Double Aster
Level 3, Eunice
This is a beautiful Marti Michell template set quilt. Eunice made this a few years ago and it’s still stunning in Blues and Yellows. Come see how to assemble the block and then how to put the quilt together. $45
   • Sundays, 1-4 PM: Feb 28 and Mar 7

   • Monday, 10 AM-3 PM: March 1
   • Friday, 10 AM-3 PM: March 26

Almost No Intersections
Level 2, Sandy
Cutting fat quarters into strips is your homework. Then you’ll sew some of these strips together, cut again and we’ll have fun making blocks that have no intersections to match. It’s fast, fun and beautiful, and it’s strip piecing! $25
   • Monday, 6-9 PM: Mar 1
   • Tuesday, 10 AM-1 PM: Mar 30
   • Thursday, 6-9 PM: April 8

Use It Up! Pinwheel Garden

The cutting and sewing is an “ah-ha” moment for almost everyone. It has unique cutting and sewing techniques. It will surely become one of your favorites. Spend two days in class to get it all sewn up for just $20 or FREE with two Use It Up! Passes

A Strippy Illusion
Level 2, Sandy
This is a simple project where you get to use one or even two “focus fabrics.” These theme fabrics set the flavor for the rest of the quilt. You create stripsets to provide illusional “frames” for the focus fabric squares. Choose a sports theme for the boys and a colorful “little girl” theme for the sweet little princesses in your life. $25
   • Monday, 6-9 PM: Mar 8
   • Tuesday, 10 AM-1 PM: Apr 6
   • Thursday, 6-9 PM: April 15

9-Patch Shaded Mountains
Level 2, Eunice
This is right out of Mary Ellen Hopkins’ patterns. Because the design is graphic, it makes quite a nice “guy quilt.” Put flowers on the mountains for the girls. You’ll love this simple diagonal set quilt. It has a real “ah ha!” moment in the construction. $25
   • Wednesday, 1-4 PM: March 10

McGregor Stars
Level 2, Eunice
This is a great little quilt that is composed of delightful 6" LeMoyne stars with an Irish chain running through it. We will be using Marti Michell’s E template set for the stars. Her nibbled corners help as we use Y-seam construction to make them. If you have never done Y-seams or used Marti Michell’s templates this is a fun quilt to try them out. $25
   • Friday, 1-4 PM: March 12

Kansas Troubles
Level 2, Eunice
The blocks in this quilt remind Eunice of a Bear’s Paw block but with a few more points. If you color this block right though, you get a fun pinwheel showing up as you put the blocks together. We are making a lot of half-square triangles in this quilt so we will be using triangle paper. If you don’t know about triangle paper, this is your chance to learn. $25
   • Sunday, 1-4 PM: March 14

Easy Pieces
Level 2, Sandy
This is your chance to work on a diagonal set, if you have not done one. A diagonal set is where you stand your blocks on their points. That makes the seams go diagonally through the quilt. There are plenty of secrets to assure your success. We have several beautiful kits assembled for this project. $25
   • Monday, 6-9 PM: Mar 15
   • Tuesday, 10 AM-1 PM: Apr 13
   • Thursday, 6-9 PM: April 22

Kitchen Windows
Level 2, Eunice
If you have a fabric with a theme on it -- like one you would see by looking out through a window or into a room, this design will lend itself to that fabric. Ours has a coffee theme, but just about anything would be great framed in this pattern. $25
   • Wednesday, 10 AM-1 PM: March 17

Sunray Stars
Level 2, Eunice
This is a two-for-the-price-of-one class. We will be using Marti Michell’s D template set to make these long-legged stars. Once you can make those easily we will be doing some little paper pieced stars for the border. $25
   • Friday, 1-4 PM: March 19

May Baskets
Level 2, Eunice
This beautiful quilt will be perfect for Spring and Summer. We used a happy yellow background with beautiful blue baskets. Because baskets look odd lying on their sides, we have put these blocks on point. So come learn the details of framing then sashing on-point blocks. Lots to learn in this class and you couldn’t have a better teacher! $25
   • Tuesday, 6-9 PM: March 23

   • Wednesday, 2-5 PM: March 24

Use It Up! Ohio Star Meets Courthouse Steps
Level 2, Sandy
This beautiful quilt is simply radiant. The light/dark contrast is marvelous. Join us to learn the techniques we used. When we made the sample we were taught more cumbersome techniques which have already been made even simpler. It’s worth the time. $10 or FREE with a “Use It Up!” Pass
   • Wednesday, 10 AM-1 PM: March 24

Use It Up! Stars in the Mud
Level 2, Sandy
This is a wonderful place to put squares of similar dark value. That’s the mud. Then choose light yellow(s) or white(s) or tan(s) for the stars. If you already have a stash of 3-1/2” squares (or even 3” squares), you are almost there! $10 or FREE with “Use It Up!” Pass
   • Thursday, 1-4 PM: March 25

Diamond Batik
Level 3, Sandy
This began as Jan’s Itch Camp project which means you saw it here first. Jan has published the pattern, so join us for this truly beautiful and award winning project. It takes careful sewing so your diamonds don’t stretch. $30
   • Saturday, 1-5 PM: March 27

Radiant Lone Star
Level 3, Sandy
The Lone Star is such a lovely quilt, but it takes careful, exact sewing to make sure all 8 arms will fit together when the time comes. It’s easy to inherit one of these just partially made, and it’s usually inherited because it was so much work, then when it came time to turn the arms into a star, they wouldn’t fit together. The “radiant” part is a reflective ring just before you get to the “spokes” which causes the repeat of colors to be reversed. It’s a beauty and we’ll make a wallhanging out of ours. If you want a bed quilt, we’ll alter the yardage for you. Come in to pick out your fabrics while Sandy is here, so she can be sure you understand the look you are going after. $35
   • Wednesdays, 6-9 PM: March 31 and April 28

Antique Triangles
Level 2, Eunice
This is a copy of an old quilt Eunice found in an old house. She loved it so she made one. The old one was full of holes and was used under the mattress on an old spring bed. It just seemed a shame to let the idea die with the quilt. It is a very comforting pattern. We will use triangle paper to speed things along. $25
   • Tuesday, 10 AM-1 PM: April 6

Tb-My Favorite Things
Level 2, Charlotte
Christmas in April? If you are a quilter, it’s always time for Christmas! This cute project is pieced with appliqués all over it. From the book, At Home with Thimbleberries $25
   • Wed, 10 AM-1 PM -OR- 6-9 PM: April 7

Southwest Carpenter
Level 2, Eunice
This quilt looks difficult, but it really is easy if you follow the directions Eunice wrote, step by step. She used Southwest colors, but you can choose your own color scheme. $25
   • Sunday, 1-4 PM: April 11
